Cianalas: homesickness, longing, nostalgia
A’ dol dhachaigh: going home(wards)
A deep seated sense of belonging to the place where your roots lie. Normally attributed to the Outer Hebrides. There is no sadness or melancholy in cianalas, only the realisation of what is truly important in life. As a Scot who grew up by the sea, I feel Cianalas, or "Home" when I am with the sea.
